Faith over fear. You’ve probably heard that phrase before. It looks great on a t-shirt, but living it out can be tough when life’s challenges bring fear. Thankfully, Christians aren’t powerless against fear. The Bible is a living and active book filled with truth to help you overcome fearful thoughts.
Not sure where to start? Here are 10 Bible verses to memorize and renew your mind when fear tries to take hold.
What It Means to “Fear Not”
Fear is a natural response to uncertainty or danger. It serves a purpose—like triggering our fight-or-flight response—but it can also become unhealthy when it paralyzes us or drives us into panic. Beyond the negative effects of fear, the Bible actually commands us not to be afraid. In fact, some variation of “fear not” appears over 300 times in Scripture.
As believers, we don’t have to live in fear because we know God is in control. He is on His throne—meaning nothing else is. Not a diagnosis, not unmet expectations, not an uncertain future. He alone holds all power and authority, and nothing can change that.
So when fear creeps in, we are called to bring it before God and filter it through His unchanging promises and faithful character.
